David Attenborough endorses YAPPENDA in Papua, Indonesia

U.K., June 12, 2024 — The renowned naturalist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough has penned an endorsement of the Indonesian NGO YAPPENDA, recognizing the importance of its mission to conserve the rich and unique biodiversity of the Indonesian portion of the island of New Guinea.

ICFC is very proud that we helped YAPPENDA get started in 2022.  ICFC founder Anne Lambert says "It is the first locally based conservation group that has the ability to work with international conservation funders and with local communities, and it was very much needed for this global priority area for biodiversity conservation."

See ICFC's project page for Papua, Indonesia.

In 2023, YAPPENDA led an expedition to a remote region of the island of New Guinea and rediscovered a “lost” and little-known species, Attenborough’s long-beaked echidna (see our story on this).
